Changeable, leaning bullish

Cycle and market breadth push the reading up; sentiment and options pull it down. The reading weighs sixteen groups of evidence, from ETF flows, on-chain data, holder cost basis, options and positioning to global liquidity, the Fed, support levels, headlines and the forecast model.

Live readings refresh every minute. Forecast model last run 2026-10-21.

Sixteen gauges, one reading

Each gauge scores its readings from −100 (historically bearish) to +100 (bullish) against fixed thresholds. The bar fills from the centre toward the side the group leans; each dot is one reading. Open a gauge to see the numbers.

Where price could go

A blend of TimesFM 3.0, halving-cycle and midterm-election analogs, a factor model, the power-law trend, analyst targets and the news tone. The orange line is one plausible path: it moves with Bitcoin's real day-to-day swings (and, over years, the rhythm of past halving cycles) while ending at the forecast median. Faint lines are other possible paths. The dark band is the likely range (half of past outcomes landed inside it); the faint band holds four in five. Both are sized from the model's real misses in backtests, scaled to today's volatility.

2026-10-19Glassnode research team, Glassnode (BTC Market Pulse Week 43)Quiet, range-bound market: dip held just above $80K (range floor). Selling has eased but spot/ETF buyers have not returned; perp takers net sellers; options paying up for downside. No directional call.shortNeutral$80.0k – $85.0k
2026-10-15Coinbase Institutional + Glassnode, Coinbase Institutional / Glassnode (Charting Crypto Q4 2026)Outlook 'constructive, with reasons for near-term caution'. 2026-10-14Glassnode research team, Glassnode (The Week On-chain: Boxed In)BTC boxed in under cost basis of last two years' buyers. Resistance: 6-12m cohort cost basis ~$88K, 1-2y cohort ~$100K. Support: US spot ETF cost basis ~$81.5K, $80K Binance bid block, True Market Mean ~$78K. Close >$88K with ETF inflows = demand back; break <$80K puts $78K in play. Risks: ETF outflows (~$760M since Oct 7 after ~$3B inflow Sep 21-Oct 6), hot Sept CPI (3.7%/2.6% core), possible 2nd Fed hike Oct 28, midterms Nov 3. How the barometer works

Live readings. Every minute the site pulls price and candles from Coinbase; funding, open interest, long/short accounts, top-trader positions and taker flow from OKX, Bybit and Binance; total open interest across 90+ venues, dominance, altcoin breadth and corporate treasuries from CoinGecko; options (implied volatility, put/call, skew, max pain) from Deribit; Fed-meeting and Bitcoin price odds from Polymarket; CME futures, the dollar, yields, stocks, VIX, oil, gold and MSTR from Yahoo Finance; hashrate and difficulty from mempool.space; on-chain history from CoinMetrics and BGeometrics; live mNAV and cost to mine from Strategy; the Fear & Greed index; and headlines from Cointelegraph, Decrypt and CoinDesk. Holder cost-basis models (True Market Mean and AVIV, STH-MVRV momentum and cost-basis bands, capital inflow, long-term holder flows, supply in profit, the Investor Tool and Pi Cycle) come from checkonchain.com once a day. Daily series (spot ETF flows from SoSoValue or BGeometrics, VDD multiple, sell-side risk, ISM PMI from Trading Economics, unemployment duration from the BLS) refresh twice a day. The price in the top bar streams from Coinbase in real time. Liquidation pools are estimated: positions are assumed to open where open interest rose, at typical leverage, and to close when price crosses their liquidation level.

Scoring. Each reading maps to −1…+1 with fixed thresholds that have marked tops and bottoms before, for example MVRV under 1 = +1 and over 3.5 = −1. Contrarian readings (Fear & Greed, retail long/short, funding) score against the crowd, while top traders' positioning scores with them. Support and resistance come from swing highs and lows on daily candles, the 50/200-day and 200-week averages and on-chain cost levels; CME gaps are weekend gaps in the CME front-month future that price has not traded back through. The midterm readings compare Bitcoin around the 2014, 2018 and 2022 US elections. A group's score is the weighted mean of its readings, and the main reading is the weighted mean of the groups: on-chain, holders & cost basis, ETFs and liquidity 8% each, technicals, macro & Fed and cycle 7% each, derivatives, longs vs shorts and news & analysts 6% each, mining, options, support & resistance, sentiment and the model 5% each, market breadth 4%. Once enough of the site's own readings have matured, these weights are re-learned from how well each gauge called the next four weeks.

Forecast model. Runs on a research machine and publishes here. Six forecasters are rebuilt at about 550 past dates since 2016 using only the data available on each date: TimesFM 3.0 (with 16 indicator covariates and the halving-cycle phase), analogs of the 2012, 2016 and 2020 cycles, a midterm-election analog, the power-law trend, a ridge model on 22 indicators, and plain "no change". The blend weights per horizon are the ones that made the smallest errors, with recent years counting more. Today that means mostly no change and trend drift for weeks, the cycle analog for months, and the power law for years. TimesFM earned 10% of the short-term blend and 0% beyond that: over months and years it lost to simpler models on unseen data. Analyst targets and the news tone add a small fixed tilt. The ranges come from the blend's real misses in the backtest, scaled to today's volatility, widened until they held on data the model never saw, and never allowed to narrow further out in time.

Research. Analyst calls and researched stories are gathered with source links and stored in the site's CMS, where they can be edited. Headline scoring on the live wire is automatic and only reads the wording, so treat it as a mood gauge.

Limits. None of this is investment advice. Bitcoin can move 20% in a week; thresholds that worked in past cycles may not hold in this one, and data sources can lag by a day.
